There are many variables to consider when designing a commercial LED lighting installation for a company or commercial space, whether redundancy, whether public or of any other nature. Conflicting with what the general public believes, there are many types of light that we can use. Likewise, it is also necessary to study many other aspects, such as powers, transformers, temperatures, color, etc.
The wide range of variables that the market offers us makes the optimal design of a commercial LED lighting installation to require specific technical knowledge, the frequent update of them and, finally, a good dose of experience.
Before getting into the matter, we believe it is necessary to highlight a reality that, although evident to professionals, may not be so much for the entrepreneur or the general public. There are different types of light, which to summarize quickly and easily. We will differentiate depending on the type of emitter (lamp) that generates it. Logically we talk about artificial light, we do not include natural light in this classification, without a doubt the most important of them all and to take into account in any Architecture or Interior Design Project.
Usually, people without technical knowledge, when facing a lighting installation, perceive the different types of lamps as sources of light, without more. It’s a mistake. To put a simile perhaps too exaggerated, it would be like not distinguishing between the multitude of types of ceramic tiles when choosing a finish for the floor.
Choice of Light
To begin with, the design of our hypothetical commercial LED lighting installation, and we will opt for a type of light or a combination of several of them. The most common types of light that we use in Commercial Interior Design are:
• Incandescent non-halogen (traditional bulb)
• Incandescent Halogen
• Metal halides
• Optical fiber
The choice of the type of light depends on the specific case and the premises to which we attach more or less importance as designers. With this, we want to make it very clear that there is no standard Light Design that we can define as a template or model to follow. However, one thing we need to clear is that there is nothing better than the LED Lights.
The reasons on which we should focus our choice are consumption, performance, whether it is an accent light or ambient light, the hours, it will be on, what type of product will illuminate, if it will turn on.
Decide the Function of the Chosen Lighting
Once we have opted for a type of light or combination of various kinds, we continue with the design. Depending on the arrangement or use we give to the same lamp, we can get different ways of lighting. Let us explain with an example: With a compact fluorescent lamp, colloquially known as “low consumption,” located in a luminaire with a reflector that concentrates a lot of the halo of light we get a punctual or accent lighting.
If on the contrary, we dispense with said element, the degree of opening opens and the emitted light functions as environmental. Another option would be to hide it in a pit or similar to generate an indirect light. It is clear that with the same lamp we can illuminate in different ways. That said, we will decide which way to brighten would be ideal for the case at hand.
The Latest Details of Commercial LED Lighting
Once the source or type of light chosen and how to illuminate it, we would have to define the last details. For the same kind of bulb, sometimes, we can choose between different caps or possibilities of placement, as well as various powers depending on the volume to illuminate.
Other elements to be defined could also be reflectors to modify the halo of light, color temperatures and the essential transformers necessary for many lamps, which although hidden, in our opinion, their choice is fundamental for correct and optimal operation of the installation.
Without a doubt, the lighting of commercial spaces is one of the technical sections of a project that requires more experience and professional value. A good design of commercial LED lighting can downplay certain deficiencies of a bad project if we use the weapons we have cunningly available but beware! The opposite case can also occur, and poor lighting planning can “ruin” a complete commercial space when it comes into action. So, we prefer you to use LED lights.
